Continuing Education

Continuing his professional education and development at New Mexico State University, Jerry expects to obtain a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering/Water Resources - Major Area of Study in 2005.

Professional

Licensed as a Professional Engineer in New Mexico, No. 8544, and Texas, No. 54769. Member of American Society of Civil Engineers. Member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Holds a New Mexico General Building Construction Contractor License (GB98) No. 54896.

Experience

Jerry has over 28 years experience in engineering and construction in a very wide variety of projects. Beginning as a pipe fitter's helper at a potash mine in 1967, he went on to work in highway construction, then as an ironworker for copper and oil refineries, and later as lead carpenter and general construction foreman on industrial facilities and housing projects. With years of practical work experience, rigorous practice of design engineering and construction, and continuing education, Jerry's broad knowledge base brings a unique insight to the complexities of forensic and technical investigations.

After serving in the U.S. Army, and later completing a degree in Civil Engineering, his first engagement as an engineer was for a design-construct firm performing the civil and structural engineering on commercial and industrial buildings. Most of these were turnkey projects and included site planning and engineering from design conception to finished facility. With his multi-disciplined land development team, Jerry conducted geotechnical investigations, civil and structural design, feasibility studies for land development, surveying, drainage systems design, water and sewer systems, and subdivision engineering. He furthered his expertise designing potable and irrigation water supplies, sewage lagoons, and their collection and distribution systems.

Jerry H. Williams, P.E.

As a Project Structural Engineer Jerry gained extensive experience in commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. His construction inspection and consultation with contractors ensured high quality, multi-story facilities in the earthquake-prone state of Utah.

After four years of intensive work with other very capable professional engineers as summarized above, Jerry opened a private practice as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Carlsbad, N.M. Designing bridges, commercial and institutional buildings, as well as other types of structures, he quickly expanded his staff to 17 employees to also offer geotechnical investigations and materials testing, surveying, and construction.

For three years, Jerry was employed with Westinghouse as a Senior Engineer at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant near Carlsbad, N.M. The WIPP is the nation's first underground nuclear waste repository. As a Project Engineer in the Construction Management Division he managed several projects, with an annual value of about $4 million.

Since August of 1992, Jerry has been CEO of private firms in Las Cruces, N.M., engaged in a variety of professional consulting services. These include a broad range of civil/structural engineering, surveying, transportation and traffic engineering, forensic and technical investigations, and construction management. He and his staff do all the required surveying and engineering on subdivisions, boundary surveys, construction staking, traffic impact analyses, hydrologic and drainage studies, bridge and drainage structures design, utilities design, feasibility studies, as well as civil and structural engineering for roads, streets, buildings, and other facilities.

Jerry has done numerous forensic engineering investigations involving structural failures and drainage or flooding problems. He has further broadened his expertise as a forensic engineer by conducting construction accident and traffic accident reconstruction. He compiles, studies, and analyzes the information gained from a site survey and research, along with the necessary calculations; then generally submits a report of his findings, conclusions and/or recommendations, supplemented with photographs, videos, or drawings. Following these investigations, sometimes the cases go to court, at which time Jerry advises attorneys of the engineering technical aspects of the case for trial preparation and concludes with expert testimony in depositions and trials. Jerry has been the principal investigator and designated expert on over 60 cases including several major cases involving fatalities or severe physical trauma.

Other Training

Jerry also holds a Private Pilot's License, and recently earned his PADI Certification in Open Water Diving.
